Traumatic Birth Syndrome
Subluxations are caused from birth. The birth process, even under natural and controlled conditions, is potentially traumatic. During the pushing stage of labor, the spine, particularly the neck, may be injured as the baby is compressed and pushed down the birth canal. As the baby is compressed, the small bones in the spine may be pushed out of their natural alignment. This causes the nerves to become stretched or twisted (commonly referred to as a nerve "pinch"), and the vital communication system is disrupted. This neurological disturbance is called a subluxation, and it may result in the failure of one or more parts of the body, as well as health in general. Subluxations can also foster the onset of sickness and disease as the body weakens. The Doctor of Chiropractic specializes in the detection and correction of subluxations. Instead of treating the symptoms of the disease, the chiropractor corrects the subluxation so that normal body functions may take place. Are subluxations serious? A subluxation causes a neurological disturbance. All body functions are controlled by the brain sending and receiving messages over nerves. During a natural birth, newborns frequently suffer subluxations as they are pulled, twisted, and compressed. Damage may be more severe in a difficult delivery as noted by Doris Haire, C.N.M.., infants delivered with forceps may sustain skull fractures, intestinal hemorrhage, cord compression, brain damage, damage to the facial nerve, and facial paralysis. Damage to the spine and delicate nerve tissue is also common. Brewer and Presser report that the vertebrae are easily pulled out of alignment by excessive and forceful extension of the infants head with forceps. Why check babies for subluxations? Complications of uncorrected subluxations may be serious, resulting in respiratory depression, and in some cases SIDS. Infants who survive and are properly diagnosed for subluxations have a better chance of having the neurological defects ultimately eliminated. A wide range of subluxations may occur, primarily due to the stretch and /or compression of the spinal cord and brain stem. As the vertebrae are forced out of their natural alignment, spinal and cranial nerve roots, as well as the dura and surrounding structures, may be torn. Most authorities believe that the brain stem and spinal injuries at birth are essentially attributable to excessive longitudinal traction, especially when force is combined with flexion and torsion of the spinal axis during delivery. Although birth subluxations may cause immediate symptoms, there may be far-reaching effects that are manifested for years. The childs ability to fight against disease, for example, may be lowered. Colds, ear infections, colic, and other illnesses may result. Subluxations may also interfere with internal organ function, resulting in the inability to produce chemicals responsible for raising and lowering body temperature as needed. Kunert indicated that the bodys immune response in the production of anti-viral and anti-bacterial agents to fight infection is greatly compromised due to the vertebral lesions (subluxations). When should your infant be checked for subluxations? Newborn infants should be checked within hours after birth. Subluxations are a serious threat to your newborns health. Your child should be checked frequently by a chiropractor to ensure the best opportunity to grow and develop normally. Chiropractic is safe and natural. The chiropractic approach to health care is natural. It does not try to stimulate or inhibit normal body function. Instead, the chiropractor addresses the important relationship between the nervous system and disease. Various symptoms, such as colic, respiratory distress, fever, earaches, and a lowered resistance may be manifested in the young child due to abnormal body function caused by subluxations. In light of this, your chiropractor may be the best doctor to help your child improve his/her health. *references on the above material is available. ADDITIONAL TRAUMATIC BIRTH SYNDROME INFORMATION The subject of Traumatic Birth Syndrome is one that few people want to talk about. Most people believe that their child could not have been the victim of TBS. Unfortunately, overwhelming research shows a much different view. Research by Dr. G. Gutmann shows that over 80% of all newborns are the victim of spinal cord and neck injuries (TBS) causing all types of health problems. Traumatic Birth Syndrome is not a new problem. Research by Dr. J.M. Duncan in 1874 showed that the average amount of force on the babys neck during the birth process, 90 to 120 pounds, is enough to cause a still birth. Less than 90 pounds of force can cause major spinal damage. The research of Dr. Abraham Towbin from Harvard Medical School revealed, The birth process, even under optimal conditions, is potentially a traumatic and crippling event for the baby. Injuries to the spinal cord and brain stem often occur during the birth process and frequently escape diagnosis or detection. Death may occur during delivery or, with respiratory depression, a short time after birth (SIDS). Infants who survive the initial effects may be left with severe nerve system damage. What about all the babies who suffered TBS and dont show
immediate signs or symptoms? Traumatic Birth Syndrome interferes with a babys
potential to express itself completely as a human being. Injuries to the neck caused by TBS often involve the brain stem
and result in the alteration and distortion of all the vital functions of the body. All
this can occur with or without obvious symptoms. I would much rather check and adjust a newborn baby to determine if she has the Vertebral Subluxation Complex, than have an autopsy done to determine the cause of death. I would much rather check and adjust a newborn baby and keep him healthy than wait 25 years and learn about him having cancer or gall bladder disease in areas where his nerve system had been damaged and compromised since birth. So dont be fooled if your medical doctor says your baby is fine. Medical doctors have little or no training with TBS, and no training in the detection and correction of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Chiropractors, on the other hand, have been detecting and correcting TBS and VSC for over 100 years with a simple and gentle exam. All children should be checked by a Chiropractor immediately after birth. You as parents owe it to your children. Take this critical step to ensure that your children are as healthy as they are designed to be. Please follow the following link for further research and information. www.stopSIDS.org
